MANZINI - Ricksha Bus is one of the things which the Municipal Council of Manzini would have as it will be developing a vibrant tourism strategy with the objective of taking the city’s tourism to the next level.

This was revealed by Manzini Mayor, Quinton Els when making his remarks during the Durban Tourism Ricksha Bus Parade in the city yesterday.

The mayor said the event was an exciting one as they experienced the Durban Tourism Ricksha sight-seeing bus. He said what excited him the most was that they see and perhaps experience the hop-on-hop-off bus that they have always spoken about as a municipality.

“As part of our long-term tourism trajectory, we envision ourselves having this kind of tour bus in our city in the not-so-distant future,” the mayor said.

He mentioned that the event Manzini Mayor Quinton Els being dressed by Durban Tourism’s ‘Tzozo’ with Zulu traditional ragalia. came at a perfect time, when they had just taken a decision to position their city as a tourism destination of choice. He said through their existing partnership with Eswatini Tourism Authority and Bush Travel Tours, they would soon be developing a vibrant tourism strategy; the objective being to take the city’s tourism to the next level.

HistoriCal

As a city, he said they take pride in their rich historical background and through it, they believe that they were sitting with gold in their hands.

“All we need to do is to start extracting it,” Mayor Els said.

In fact, the mayor said they have already started this journey as a total of 26 historical sites have been identified in the city. He said some of them have been declared as national monuments, whilst others were still in the process.

Again, he said through their partnership with Eswatini Tourism Authority and Bush Travel Tours, they have packaged the sites into what they refer to as the Manzini Eco-City Tour.

He said what they were working on now was their promotion as compelling must-visit tourist sites.

“I am happy that we will soon experience the exciting Manzini Eco-City Tour,” he said.

Thereafter, he encouraged both domestic and international tourists to make the city of Manzini one of their top tourist destinations. He said the city has a lot to offer in terms of tourism.

When reacting to the mayor’s speech, the Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Moses Vilakati challenged the city of Manzini to make their dream of having things like Ricksha Bus, a reality as they strive to take the city’s tourism to another level.
