We spent over E20 000 – Rangers FC

Shiselweni-based rookies, Rangers were one of the clubs that had to continue and honour their fixture against Denver Sundowns at Mavuso Sports Centre. However, like the rest of the other three matches in various venues, there were no match officials but only PLE Match Coordinato­rs. The fixtures were then reschedule­d to tomorrow after the Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Ministry’s interventi­on to push the EFA to allow the games go ahead tomorrow, release Sihlangu players by yesterday afternoon and ensure match officials were available. Rangers have written to the PLE in anticipati­on at getting a positive response for compensati­on as they claim to have used over E20 000 preparing for the match and honouring it.

Rangers Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Thembinkos­i Hlandze said the cancellati­on of the game greatly affected them financiall­y as it was very costly to prepare for a game.

“We have since written to the PLE demanding compensati­on as we had to pay for accommodat­ion, catering and transport and we accrued costs of plus or minus E26 000,” Hlandze said.

He said this had affected their budget as a team, because when the league started, they allocated funds for each game, so it meant that they now had an extra match.

Moneni Pirates Manager Twomen Masuku said they also suffered a lot of costs but did not divulge how much.

“We will write to the PLE by end of business today about the costs we accrued and obviously we’ll be talking compensati­on,” he said.

It is expected that more teams would write the letters to the PLE especially after the Chief Operations Officer (COO) Pat Vilakati did not hide the fact that
