Differing views welcome, will follow Constitution – govt

-

MANZINI - “There is no government worth its salt that can be resentful towards differing public opinion,” says Government Spokesperson Alpheus Nxumalo.

He said this was regardless of how controversial and contentious they maybe be, because that is what enhances democracy and freedom of expression. “However, the law is the law. Every liSwati knows that next year it’s elections year in the kingdom of Eswatini,” Nxumalo said.

He said regarding the SADC terms of reference, which has been handed over or down to country (if any at all), government through the prime minister (PM), would continue to update emaSwati on processes and new developments around the national dialogue.

Speculation

“There is no reason for speculation. The process will be in line with the national Constitution not in line with parachuted sentimental reasons by any friends and partners of the country. So, there’s no reason to be paranoid about any perceived SADC terms of reference on the national dialogue, if any,” the government spokesperson said.

Again, he said the commitment to peaceful and relaxing engagement as alluded to by the individuals and entities of interest, was most welcomed by government.

He said the views projected on the 2023 general elections - remains just that, their respective views. “However, holding and conducting national elections is a constitutional call and obligation,” Nxumalo added.

operations

On another note, regarding the deployment of members of State security organs (army) at UNESWA, he said it was the view of government that the security forces have made enough responses and undertakings on investigative work to establish what exactly transpired during the operations at UNESWA.

Moreover, he said on the so called ‘Winter revolution’ - no one had inferred that this group of people calling themselves MSF was responsible for it, unless of course they have knowledge of what government does not know.

If so, he said they should go ahead and tell them more, they would be listening. Otherwise, he said he could only refer them on the statement government had already issued on this particular conspiracy.
