MTNre-launches Y’ello Care programme
MBABANE - Back with a Y’ello bang!
After two years of being put on hold, MTN Eswatini has re-launched one of its biggest charity projects.
Yesterday, at their headquarters in Ezulwini Mahlalekhukhwini House, the telecommunications company launched and kicked off the 14th annual 21 Days of Y’ello Care programme.
As in previous years, the campaign will run for three weeks to enable staff members to participate without compromising day-to-day business operations. Speaking during the launch, the company’s Manager Corporate Affairs, Thandiwe Mashinini, said this would be the first 21 Days of Y’ello Care since the COVID-19 pandemic affected the world.
She said: “It is important to ensure that everyone stays safe as they volunteer and engage with communities.”
Campaign
Worth noting is that the 21 Days of Y’ello Care campaign is an annual employee volunteerism initiative, which was launched by MTN in 2007. It aims at securing high participation levels by staff in high impact social projects in their local communities.
In addition to her statement, Mashinini said since its inception 14 years ago, the campaign had proven to be a phenomenal success that profiled MTN as a caring and socially responsible company.
“Each year we strive to improve the effectiveness of the campaign, make a visible and sustained contribution to the societies in which we operate in. We also leverage the campaign to draw closer to MTN’s communities and be visible at grassroots level,” she said.
Mashinini further said they were trying to provide an opportunity for their staff to actively contribute to community development and be inspired by ‘giving back all the while profiling MTN as a caring corporate citizen’.
“The overarching theme of 21 Days 2022 is ‘Empowering Communities to Drive Economic Recovery and Job Creation’. The MTN Eswatini team has adopted this theme with much focus on Digital Skills for Digital Job for 21 Days of Y’ello Care 2022,” she said.
Y’ello Care in 2019, the last one held, focused on ‘Creating a Brighter Future for our youth’, developed out of the fact that the youth in the country were considered to be the leaders of tomorrow.
Mashinini explained that the focus of Y’ello Care 2022 would be on empowering communities to drive economic recovery, with a strong focus on training and opportunities for job creation, particularly within the context of a digital world. She said this aligned with the continuous drive towards the core belief that everyone deserved the benefits of a modern connected life.
“As we enter the 4th industrial revolution, with a new strategic focus on digital skills for digital jobs, starting off our Y’ello Care initiatives by focusing on empowering communities to drive economic recovery after COVID-19 through training, up skilling and knowledge sharing will create lasting and sustainable change,” she said.
