MBABANE – Blessed is the hand that gives!
Timothy Magagula, an ex-soldier who served time at a Correctional facility, is appealing for financial assistance to continue with his studies in Theology. Magagula needs E8 600 to pursue a Diploma in Theology.
Magagula, through the Prison Fellowship Eswatini (PFS) had his life transformed while doing time behind bars and upon his release started pursuing studies in theology.
Luck has not been on his side, as four weeks ago, he was chased out of class due to financial challenges.
According to Magagula, he was writing tests when he was dismissed by the college for the owed fees. He mentioned that he was frustrated by the situation, as he so much wanted to study and continue with his calling.
Magagula said he was in so much pain knowing that he was thrown out of class due to financial challenges, yet he desperately wanted to pursue the course and grow in the ministry of Christ.
Conviction
He said following his conviction of seven years with no fine, without any court records, he believed that God was calling him to a certain place.
“I came to understand that God was calling me, such that when I was in prison my parents died,” he said.
He said he loved studying, especially theology, because he wanted to major in counselling among other things.
According to Magagula, he could take up any job offer which would not disturb his mission to preach in order to respond to his needs. He said even if its hard work including bricklaying or cleaning the yard, he would gladly work. “I have swallowed my pride that I was once a soldier and God is at work in me,” he said.
Magagula stated that he had started ministering in Matsapha, but the challenge was that he had no clothes to wear while preaching at the pulpit. “The ministry is growing and God is using me in a very special way,” he said. Pastor Justice Mtetwa of the PFS described Magagula as a trophy of grace, following his transformation while serving time at the Correctional Facility.
Calling
Mtetwa said they were an organisation that took care of the needs of inmates and also assisted those who had transformed on ways to cope after being released. He said Magagula was able to contact them and share his vision to continue with his calling. Mtetwa said Magagula stated that he desired to study theology and as a non- profit organisation that survived through offerings, they could not shoulder the fees. However, he mentioned that they were able to convince the College of Theology to accept him while they continued to scout for funding. Mtetwa said Magagula was attending classes and also received modules, but due to the fact that he had not paid anything he couldn’t continue.
Mtetwa said they have managed to raise E1 000 towards Magagula’s studies and now needs a balance of E8 600.
