MBABANE – A 38-year-old liSwati was arrested in Mpumalanga after being found in possession of dagga worth E300 000 on Wednesday.

This was confirmed by the South African Police Service (SAPS), Spokeperso­n, Captain Mavela Masondo, after receiving a report from the Mpumalanga Province officers. Masondo said the suspect, Siphosethu Nxumalo, appeared at the Low’s Creek Magistrate­s Court yesterday and was granted E6 000 bail, and would be back in court on June 6, 2022. He said Nxumalo was arrested during an Intelligen­ce Driven Operation that was conducted at Mpumalanga.

He further stated that, members from the unit gathered informatio­n about a car moving in a questionab­le manner and then mobilised police officers on duty, who spotted the said vehicle and stopped it for a search, they discovered bags which were loaded with dagga weighing about 341.7kg

According to Masondo, police also confiscate­d the vehicle as it was used in the commission of the alleged crime. He mentioned that preliminar­y investigat­ions had since revealed that there were possibilit­ies that the suspect may have faced more charges relating to being in the country illegally. However, he said he was cleared, as he had legal documents to enter South Africa. In another breakthrou­gh, the captain said police continued to make their presence felt at the borders, with an aim to ensure that citizens lived in a safe environmen­t. He said they further arrested three emaSwati who were found without valid travel documents, who had used informal crossings to gain access into the country.
