President’s moment with security guard

-

MBABANE – The humility of visiting President of Zambia Hakainde Hichilema was on everyone’s lips yesterday morning at the way the Head of State carried himself. But no one would have expected the president’s modesty to even take by surprise a security guard at Sidvokodvo Dairy Farm.

The president had just been taken through the process of milking the dairy cows, where he watched the cows being taken in and out of the milking points, when everyone turned to leave and he, instead, turned to the other direction and headed straight to where Sibusiso Nkambule, the security guard, was.

Nkambule was standing alone at the far end of the milking parlour silently channelling the cattle towards the milking points and no one seemed to be paying attention to him, except for the president.

When everyone saw the president heading towards Nkambule, no one knew what he was doing and the security guard was equally baffled.

So stunned was Nkambule such that when the president called him over, he appeared to want to run away but he was called by those in Hichilema’s entourage to come forward.

Still, Nkambule did not know what was happening and when the president extended his arm to give him an elbow greeting, the security guard appeared scared.

He was urged by the entourage to come closer and the president then told him that he wanted to take a photo with him and instructed Nkambule to face the cameras.

After that the president gave him another elbow greeting and then left, leaving Nkambule stunned.

In a brief interview with the Times SUNDAY, Nkambule said he was surprised at what had happened to him as a security guard. “It’s nice that the president wanted to take a photo with me, meanwhile, I have to be careful that I do not lose my job. I was shocked at what happened because I have never had an opportunity of being this close to a prominent person, let alone a head of State. I am still surprised,” he said and indicated that he resides in Matsapha.
