TODAY, we join the international community to mark World Environment Day (WED), which reminds us of our shared responsibility to protect our planet for now and for the generations to come. The theme for this year is “Only One Earth it focuses on ‘Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature’. Nature is essential for our health and well-being as it purifies the air, we breathe, provides us with nutritious food and fresh water. It is also key for our continued prosperity and our natural ally in the fight against climate change. As a country, we have made a lot of strides towards creating a cleaner, healthier, more resilient and sustainable environment. This year’s WED coincide with to commemoration of the 50 years since the 1972 Stockholm United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, which marked a watershed moment, recognising the centrality of the environment for human well-being, sparked a host of new global agreements to protect the environment, and led to the creation of an anchoring institution in the United Nations – the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

Let us make a promise to the world that we won’t harm her anymore, and we’ll make her a healthier one.

Happy World Environmental Day!
