Khangezile first female Leg of Lamb winner

MBABANE - It was a historic moment for Khangezile Mkhonta who became the first lady champion of the weekly Dups Herbal Leg of Lamb (LOL) Golf Tournament.

The tournament was launched over five years ago and takes centre stage every Friday at the Manzini Golf Course. The first ever female golf champion, who dethroned last week’s champion Richard Dlamini, carded a unique 21points against a field of 22 other golfers. She is one of five female members of the Manzini Golf Club, including 21-year-old Nosimilo Kgomo, who was placed fourth with 17 points.

Veteran golfer James Nhlengetfw­a beat Aubry Mkhonta to the runner-up spot, scoring 20 points and one point clear ahead of Aubry. Club President Jacques Potgieter settled for position five, and finishing his nine holes with a total of 16 points and United General Insurance Operations Manager Patrick Gamedze made the cut after registerin­g 15 points.

I am over the moon for finally winning the crown. I attend at least three tournament­s per month, so I owe it all to consistenc­y in practicing that helps me to improve my game.”

Manzini Golf Club Captain Wakie Lawrence congratula­ted the champion and encouraged more ladies to join the sport of golf.
