MBABANE – Was Former Siphofaneni Member of Parliament (MP) and Swaziland Liberation Movement (SWALIMO) President Mduduzi ‘Gawuzela’ Simelane in Eswatini over the weekend?

This was the question which lingered on many people’s minds when pictures of him with his father and some of Siphofaneni residents circulated on social media yesterday. There were speculations that Simelane might have outsmarted the country’s security forces and entered the kingdom without being noticed as he was still wanted by the police.

Simelane took to his Facebook page to post two pictures, one with his father in a car and the other with his fans wearing SWALIMO T-shirts in some unknown location. In his post, Simelane met his father and some of his community members and that was his humbling and energising moment. “To see my dad and few of my community people was a humbling and energising moment. I love you dad, I love you Siphofaneni, I love you Swaziland (Eswatini), oh yes I love you great wonder-doing generation of our history. God loves us more. I am safe. Family meeting loading in few days,” reads the post.

When sought for comment, Simelane neither confirmed nor denied being on Eswatini soil. “I can only confirm that, yes, I visited a few of my community people and also did all I could to see my father.

The place and manner in which I visited them cannot be divulged, at least for now. Whether it was in my community, in Swaziland or not in Swaziland please let that remain not known (sic),” said Simelane.

He emphasised that he was currently safe and was still continuing with his call for democracy in Eswatini.

Simelane reportedly escaped the country last year July after his warrant of arrest circulated and it was the same time when his colleagues in Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube were arrested for allegedly contravening the Suppression of Terrorism Act while Mabuza was also separately charged for allegedly con
