MBABANE – MTN Premier League rookies Rangers FC’s hopes of retaining their premier league status were shuttered when they failed to beat Vovovo yesterday at the Prince of Wales Sports Ground.

Rangers ended their Premier League campaign with a disappointing goalless draw against Vovovo, leaving them placed third from the log bottom to join the already relegated Tinyosi and Malanti Chiefs. The result was also a setback for Vovovo, who were hopeful of securing a victory in chase of the E75 000 prize money for finishing on position six.

Rangers’ offensive game plan failed to yield positive results due to poor execution, as they ended their 30 games with a total of 27 points, as this was their sixth draw of the season. They had a fair share on wasted chances in the first half and their strikes at goal were ineffective against import goalkeeper Innocent Adja who made three remarkable saves. Five substitutions in the second half was Mthunzi Ginindza’s effort to break the deadlock, but their efforts were in vain for Vovovo who were equally up to the challenge.

A perfect cross by second-half substitute Sibusiso Mkhonta to Senzelwe Dlamini bounced off the post and was cleared by Rangers’ players from under the box. Both teams were pressured to score and that cost Vovovo as an emotional Phila Dlamini was shown a red card by referee Wandile Mamba before the double blow of the whistle that marked the end of the 2021/2022 MTN Premier League campaign for both teams.
