SITEKI – A 33-year-old Nigerian woman was on Sunday nabbed by police officers at the King Mswati III Internatio­nal Airport for entering the country while in possession of fraudulent documentat­ion.

Bolaji Fadilat Temitope appeared before Siteki Magistrate Machawe Bhembe.

Representi­ng the Crown was Prosecutor Lomthandaz­o Lukhele, while the Investigat­ing Officer Peter Magagula was present to lead evidence in court.

The Nigerian national elected to conduct her own defense on the matter.

She had been charged with two counts, and in count one, Bolaji has been charged for contraveni­ng Section 14 (1) (d) of the Immigratio­n Act of 1987, in that on July 9, 2022 at about 8:30am at or near King Mswati III Internatio­nal Airport in the Lubombo Region, the said accused person unlawfully possessed a fraudulent document to wit Visa No: 01789/2022, thus contraveni­ng the said Act.

Charged

In count two, Bolaji has also been charged for contraveni­ng Section 14 (2) (c) of the Immigratio­n Act of 1987, in that upon July 9, 2022 at about 8:30am near King Mswati III Internatio­nal Airport in the Lubombo Region, the said accused person unlawfully entered Eswatini thus contraveni­ng the said Act.

The Crown moved that the matter be postponed to today while waiting for an important document that was still to be furnished by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Siteki Magistrate Bhembe granted the Crown’s applicatio­n and ordered that the accused be remanded in custody and was expected back in court this morning.

Meanwhile, last month, five Bangladesh­i nationals namely, Agun Mohammed Zahid Hasan (34), Hossan Ekbal (20), Islam Sagor (30), Hossain Mohammed Riyad (34) and Islam Mcherajul (19) pleaded guilty on similar counts they were charged with.

Magistrate Bhembe fined the five E1 200 fine each and were expected to have applied for their deportatio­n with the Minister of Home Affairs, Prince Lindiwe, in 14 days period.

They were also expected to remain in police custody while waiting for their deportatio­n.
