‘Swazi Bolt’s last Commonweal­th Games

MBABANE – Sprinter Sibusiso ‘Swazi Bolt’ Matsenjwa will be competing for the last time in the Commonweal­th Games later this month.

He said he was looking to leave a mark in the games which start July 28 to August 8 in Birmingham, where he will compete in 200m. Matsenjwa has already left the country for the United States of America (USA) where he will first compete in the World Athletics Championsh­ips, before heading to Birmingham to join the rest of the team that will be leaving the country on July 26.

Matsenjwa had been dominant in the country in track and field sprints for the past decade. He is the national record holder for both the 100 and the 200 metres.

Fastest

The country’s fastest man is 34 and he will be 38 when the next Commonweal­th Games are held in Victoria, Australia.

Matsenjwa will be competing in the 200m in Birmingham and he will also be part of the 4X100m relay alongside Ayanda Malaza, Menziwokuh­le Msibi and Benele Dlamini. All this athletes were present during the four-day camp at Mhlume Country Club.

The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) Athletics Team athlete made the country proud in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics Games where he reached the semifinals in the 200m.

It is only boxer Simanga Shiba who left a mark in Commonweal­th games when he brought home a bronze medal in the 2006 Melbourne Commonweal­th Games.

Menziwokuh­le Msibi (Sprinter)

2021 represente­d the nation in Botswana and got a bronze medal 2021 world junior champs in Kenya (Nairobi) got a national junior record in the relay

2022 ran in South Africa three times and twice in Botswana. Went for African senior championsh­ips in Mauritius

Last year he won award during the awards

He is set to run a 100m and 4X100m in the Birmingham Commonweal­th Games
