Stop being selfish, serve people

-

Madam,

3olitics is such a dirty game.

7he political landscape of (swatini is obYiously different to that of the rest of the world. 2ur landscape is sans scandals and presidential cam paigns worthy of being considered world news, as our landscape remains mostly unchanged.

'rowned in Yerbosity, politicians play on people¶s fears and hopes, the same principle the entire notion of insurance is based on. *rande prom ises are made, which are apparently a method of altering the immediate realities of mostly poor populations. .nowing Yery well what these com munities want, they promise the world and hand them ]ilch once they occupy the office.

7he lengths and tactics employed during campaign trails are hilarious. *rown men weaponising sassiness in order to tear down the other. It¶s frankly entertainment.

ENVIRONMENT

Where it¶s clear that our leaders want to do the bare minimum in serY ing the people and go the e[tra mile in serYing themselYes and their pockets" 6ure, the enYironment in which they liYe and function is bloodied with corruption and amnesia about the role they are there to play, but real leaders rise aboYe childish distractions and do the work. 7his is what is killing our country, the lack of decisiYe thinking from our leaders.

7he people are fast becoming Yocal about their happiness, eYen the apathy that seems to be part and parcel of being a li6wati is starting to dissi pate. 3eople just want to be heard and promises deliYered. 7hey liYe in sTualor, while those they belieYe to be their leaders and inYested their hope in gaining larger pockets.

7his is why there¶s a conscious reYolution about.

7here¶s also an annoying trend of politics that commodifies poYerty and uses it to gain faYour among that µpoor¶ population. 7hey µbuy¶ our pain and repackage it and market it back to us as µhope¶. %ut leaders neYer be a measure of a person but smart work and hard work are. If a woman affords to buy a washing machine to cut down hours spent on chores and spend more on family time, to make their liYes conYenient, it does not make them less of a woman. If this is the case, then by all means our society is broken.

It is broken because we are attached to poYerty and scarcity. $nd because we refuse to eYolYe, we also hate the wom en who do so. If women who refuse to be measured by hard labour are defying nature, then the worth of a man should be the same.

0en should not buy cars but walk to work, they should not eYen buy phones or cutting machines but use their hands to do these tasks because doing so reflects on their part; that they are not man enough nor do they haYe what it takes to be real men. 7he irony is in the double standards; that men are deserYing of conYenience at all costs, that the way in which culture is set up ensures their comfortability but fails to do so for women.

&ulture in fact goes to the e[tent of tasking women to perform hard labour as a way to justify their worthiness into a marriage. Women must constantly proYe themselYes and they must proYe their worth.

7hey do not haYe the liberty to work smart and portray anything outside hard labour lest they are labelled µtoo good¶ for eYeryone.

7his is to Tuestion the nature that we haYe been socialised into belieYing a person is not good enough based on holding onto the past when adYance ment e[ists. 7echnology e[ists to make life easier.

B V must not underestimate our ability to see authenticity; we know a press op from a genuine moment. We are here to call you out.

We as young people are considered a politically apathetic. I think it¶s not that, we do care. We just want to be engaged on a leYel that addresses our issues directly while being allowed a platform to proYide solutions as well. Who better to proYide suggestions of solYing problems than the Yery ones liYing that reality"

We as a youth are bubbling with frustration and being misrepresented but through conYersation and col laboration, tangible solutions can be found. %ut our leaders need to stop being selfish and perform their duties and that¶s to serYe the people.
