MBABANE – Four learners from LaMgabhi High School, who are in Form IV, have been presented with smartphones by LaMgabhi MP Dumisani Dlamini for their outstanding performances.
On Wednesday LaMgabhi Inkhundla Member of Parliament (MP) Dumisani Dlamini rewarded them for getting First Class with Merits in the Junior Certificate examination (JC) last year. Out of the four beneficiaries; three were males; Simanga Dlamini, Sibusiso Dlamini, Phumlani Nhlabatsi and Hleloluhle Ntshangase was the only female.
Pandemic
MP Dlamini said the Hisense U40 smartphones were to motivate the learners by ensuring that they excelled even during the COVID-19 pandemic era. He said he visited the school last October, where he told them that the best performing JC learners would be awarded.
“The smartphones I presented to the learners are a result of the promise I made last October, 2021. It is one way of encouraging the learners during the COVID-19 era where they had been learning online. I wanted to ensure that they surpassed all of these challenges by producing best grades,” he said.
He also said COVID-19 affected learners negatively by forcing them to study at home. He said looking at the background of some of the learners, he saw it right to make such an offer to them. He said he wanted them to excel while studying at home.
“The COVID-19 pandemic affected them so much to an extent where schools had so many breaks. This then led to many of them losing their focus. I told them that they must excel academically despite learning online. I am happy that four of them got first class with merits in their JC examinations,” he said.
Dlamini encouraged all learners to take education seriously. He said education was a key to success and therefore learners must fully apply themselves in class. He further highlighted that his offer still stands even to those students who were in Form III this year.
“Even in this new academic year, I will award those learners that will excel in Form III. Those who will get merits in the JC exams will also be awarded with smartphones. This time around we have upscaled the awarding system as even those who will get first and second classes will get pair of shoes,” he said.
Parents were also present during the smartphones presentation. One of the parents identified as Make Dlamini thanked the MP for awarding the learners with smartphones as a form of motivation and encouragement to the other learners.
