PIGG’S PEAK – The Pigg’s Peak Ratepayers Association is accusing the town council of not allowing them to hold meetings within the civic centre facility.

The association is said to have planned their Annual General Meeting (AGM) for August 6, 2022. However, the event could not take place as they were informed that the available venues were fully booked.

According to a letter dated August 2, 2022, the association had requested permission to use the civic centre last Saturday.

However, the town council responded that the facility had been booked for the day.

This, however, did not go down well with the association as on Saturday, some of the members including King Mziyako who is the chairperson, as well as Busta Vilakai who is the spokesperson,

Pigg’s Peak Ratepayers Association Chairperson

went to check the venue to verify if there was any meeting taking place.

Vilakati said upon arrival at the civic centre, they discovered that the facility

King Mziyako (L) and Busta Vilakati.

was closed and that there was no event taking place. He said this was strange because the town council had informed the association that there was supposed

to be an event booked there.

“Why did they tell us that the venue was booked?” asked Vilakati.

He said they had approached a security

officer there and confirmed that nothing else was taking place.

He said they had arrived in the morning and also went to check again around 1pm but still, there was no event taking place.

Vilakati said this was disappointing because they were supposed to be working hand-in-hand with the town council. He said the AGM was aimed at bringing ratepayers and residents together and informing them about what had been happening, as well as the way forward.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pigg’s Peak Town Mzwandile Ndzinisa said the facilities were booked on a firstcome-first-served basis. He said in this case, a group that had arrived earlier was granted permission to use the facility.

Further, the CEO said the town council even offered to give the ratepayers access to Gobolondlo Hall, but it was being used for a wedding.

When he was asked about the event not taking place on Saturday, he said the town council was not informed about it being cancelled.
