MBABANE – Comoros’ Olympique de Moroni eliminated Young Buffaloes Ladies from the 2022 Hollywoodbets COSAFA Women’s Champions League.

The Fisiwe Hlophe-led side chances of reaching the third place playoffs were dashed by a 44th strike from Hadhirami Ali Anlaouia, after she received a well weighted pass from Mchangama Maltoufa, in the centre line. She took Young Buffaloes defenders on a joy ride before unleashing a hard shot past the advancing goalkeeper Sukoluhle Dlamini.

The local side started the game the better side as Sikhanyiso Magagula could not believe her eyes, when she was denied by the crossbar a few minutes into the game. Mozambican international Vasco Tsanwane, tried a long drive just outside the box, missing the target by a few inches.

Attempts

The local side had 14 goal attempts at goal and five of them were on target, as compared to Moroni’s five attempts and three shots on target in the first stanza. The second half was evenly balanced as both sides failed to create meaningful chances at goal, but Young Buffaloes Celiwe ‘Cece’ Nkambule, should have leveled matters as she broke free eight minutes before regulation time, but took a tame shot at goal, which was saved by the goalkeeper.

The side Comoros tightened their back door to hold onto the slender win.

The result meant that the army side finished the Group B at the basement without a point and a goal in all their two matches.

The side from Comoros will now face Double Action from Botswana in the battle for the third place.

Meanwhile, Young Buffaloes Coach Fisiwe Hlophe said the game was tough, but felt they should have buried the game in the first half, had they converted the chances they created.

She, however, said they gained a lot of experience from the tournament and they would use it back home to come back next year.
