This was after the father reprimanded him for beating his siblings.

The father, Elias Nyoni, narrated the ordeal to this publication and stated that he found his son slapping his children with open hands without any valid reason, hence he promptly intervened by trying to calm him but he aggressively drew a knife and repeatedly stabbed and sliced him on the hands.

Narrating the ordeal, Nyoni alleged that his son might have acted in this unbecoming manner because he was under the influence of an illegal habit-forming substance, dagga, of which he suspected that he was smoking with his peers.

The father said he was away when his son started to beat his children for no apparent reason and when he was informed about the incident, he swiftly rushed home.

He said, upon arrival at his home, he tried to ascertain what the reason behind his son’s behaviour was, as he found him beating his children with open hands.

Nyoni said when he tried to calm his son; he became violent and drew a knife.

At that instance, he said he made attempts to confiscate the knife he was wielding but he was unsuccessful, hence he was eventually sliced and stabbed in both hands while trying to avoid his son’s advances.

Adding, Nyoni said neighbours intervened after seeing the unfolding scuffle between him and his son.

He stated that his son managed to flee and escaped from the advancing neighbours who were alarmed by the unfortunate incident.

He added that he reported the matter to the police but he would await his son’s return to his home so that he could thoroughly discipline him for his strange behaviour, as he was becoming a threat to the community. Nyoni further went to the Lomahasha Clinic, where he was offered

“My children will now live in fear of the unknown after seeing their brother stabbing me with a knife. I will deal with him if he ever comes back and hope police take him away,” the distraught father said.

Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the matter.

Vilakati said the suspect was currently at large but advised him to hand himself over.

“We have a matter of this nature which was reported and the man was sent to the clinic to get medical attention and the suspect is still at large,” she said.

Meanwhile, in 2019, this publication ran a story that a man was admitted to the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital surgical ward after stabbing himself six times with a kitchen knife in an attempt to end his life.

He had also admitted to trying to kill his children.

Mduduzi Msibi (25) admitted to having reached the decision of killing himself and the children (aged two and five) after smoking dagga. Msibi said he had been experiencing problems in his marriage.
