Ally, ‘Big 4’ donate E40k to Health Ministry
MBABANE – A generous gesture to aid the country’s health sector was on Wednesday made by the country’s ‘Big Four’ teams and Mbabane Highlanders Managing Director Chief Ally Kgomongwe.
At least E40 000 was donated to health sector in an event that also had the brief presence of the Minister of Health, Lizzie Nkosi. This was on Wednesday during a breakfast meeting event hosted by the ministry in its bid to raise funds as the country plays host to the 15th Scientific Conference scheduled for Esibayeni Lodge, Matsapha next month.
“We had invited various stakeholders including certain individuals, organisations and individuals at Happy Valley where we raised over E200 000 on the day. We’re grateful to all our donors, including football’s Ally Kgomongwe who said he was also donating E20 000 for the country’s football teams and E20 000 for Mbabane Highlanders,” Event Organiser Dr Sakhile Masuku confirmed the donation.
She said Minister Nkosi was also part of the event as much as she did not meet Kgomongwe, but they were all grateful to him and the football fraternity for the kind gesture.
“We need a lot of things done, so we need a lot of finances even the Times can come on board and assist us in one way or the other,” she said.
Dr Masuku said other donors included the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident (SMVA) Fund, UNFPA, Bethel Court and Alliance Church among others.
Meanwhile, Kgomongwe said it gave him a good feeling being recognised by the country’s government through the Ministry of Health as he was invited to the event.
“I was honoured to be part of the event and I understand how health is useful to football as well, so to me this is a partnership between the health sector and football,” he said.
Kgomongwe said the E20 000 was from Highlanders, while the other half was on behalf of the ‘Simunye’ teams, these being the country’s ‘Big Four’ and other member teams.
