Three amateur chefs tickle right taste buds

MBABANE – It was cheers and shouts of congratula­tions all round yesterday as three amateur chefs were selected at the Pick n Pay Luju Cook-Off competitio­n.

The live pre-Cook-Off was held at The Sage Cafe, Pick n Pay Malkerns.

The three selected contestant­s Justina Bain, Akhona Bhengu popularly known by his rapper name King Terry and Tandzile Nkabindze, will now go through to the social media public voting stage.

This is where it will be up to the public to select which two go through to the final round at the Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle festival, where they will compete against each other for the title of Pick n Pay Luju CookOff Master Chef, in front of a panel of judges, including celebrity food enthusiast Somizi Mhlongo.

Votes can be cast on the polls on the official festival channels: Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival on Facebook and @luju_festival on Instagram, as well as @lujufestiv­al on Twitter, starting tomorrow till Sunday September 25,2022. The top two will be announced on Monday, September 26, 2022

All five pre-cook-off contestant­s walked away with a hamper of local produce, as well as two tickets to the Standard Baank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival, scheduled for

September 30 to October 1 at House On Fire.

The PnP Luju Cook-Off competitio­n, supported by Pick n Pay Lojaf, is aimed at developing local culinary entreprene­urs through prizes which facilitate personal and business growth, and over E20 000 worth in prizes will be won, including Guba permacultu­re courses, and a cash prize of E10 000 for the winner.

LOCAL FOOD PRODUCERS

Standard Bank Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival and Pick n Pay are invested in supporting local food producers, and have partnered with Rhodes Food Group, Lactalis, KWV, Emlembe, Southern Trading, Black Mamba, and Eswatini Retail Solutions (ERS) to ensure that the competitio­n involves 100 per cent local products and enterprise­s.
