Eswatini for Teqball World Champs

MBABANE – The Federation Internatio­nale de Teqball (FITEQ) has officially announced the dates and hosts for the 2022 World Championsh­ips.

This year’s championsh­ips event will be held in Nuremberg, Germany , in the period of November 23-27 at the state-of-the-art Kia Metropol Arena. FITEQ also announced that athlete quotas (both individual (singles events) and team (doubles)) can be obtained either upon sporting results of national qualifier(s) organised by the National Federation­s, or upon invitation.

Invitation­s will be determined by world ranking points, a nomination of the recognised National Federation, or via wild cards granted by the FITEQ Executive Board.

Meanwhile, the road to the Teqball World Championsh­ips starts today. This was confirmed by the Secretary General, Nolwazi

Qualificat­ion can be obtained along with qualifying position reached at National Qualifier(s) organised by recognised National Federation, subject to the prior approval of FITEQ. Qualificat­ion events must be published on the official site and social media platforms of the affiliated national federation at least 10 days before the event.

3. To ensure the acquisitio­n of the necessary documents necessary to entry to the hosting country for athletes concerned, all qualifiers should be held at least by October 10 of the calendar year in question.

The organiser of the qualifier(s) is obliged to invite all athletes eligible to represent the nation concerned with FITEQ World Ranking position in the affected calendar year.

Due to the announceme­nt by FITEQ, the Teqball Eswatini Federation (TEF) made the decision to postpone this month’s Club’s Tour to accommodat­e the Eswatini World Championsh­ips qualifying 2. 4.

Ngwenyama, yesterday. “Round one and two will be played today. The next round will be on Sunday. The games will be played at OlympAfric­a Centre at Lobamba. This is the first round of World Championsh­ip qualifiers for Eswatini,” said Ngwenyama.

She said they were looking to fill the men’s singles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles quotas in time for the global championsh­ips in Germany, in November. “The Teqball Eswatini Federation’s team has been working tirelessly to ensure that our athletes are in top shape in time for the qualifiers and this was done through the monthly Teqball Eswatini Clubs’ Tour and Eswatini Challenger Cup which was in July,” she said.

Ngwenyama highlighte­d that from the qualifying rounds, Eswatini would be represente­d by five players in the global event. There will be one in the singles; two in the men’s double; and two in the mixed doubles.

The Federation aims to meet the quota in both individual and team categories (Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles).

The Qualificat­ion Rounds will be played on September 24-25, 2022 and the October 1-2, 2022 at venues still to be announced.

A selection of best top four clubs/players in our current club’s tour league in all categories. The top four will face off in a competitiv­e Teqball Qualifier to establish the best to represent Eswatini (round robin format). Maximum points accumulate­d win the quota.

Players can only participat­e under two categories.

Clubs have the right to select players upon Federation’s approval.

Federation reserves the right to select player(s) outside the Top four Club’s leagues bracket.
