Mkhiweni Inkhundla on fire

-

SUNDAY greetings! Following the overwhelming success of our mass participation flagship programme, Shukuma Eswatini, which was staged in the Zombodze Emuva Inkhundla, last Saturday, all roads led to the Mkhiweni Inkhundla for another enthralling programme, yesterday.

The Mkhiweni Inkhundla came alive as it hosted our popular programme, which has turned full circle in recent times to become a premium platform for public engagement. For the uninitiated, Shukuma now fully encompasses the mandate of our parent ministry, which is the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs.

It should no longer be surprising that the Honourable Minister, Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga is always leading by example.

The minister puts everything aside to lead from the front. We are grateful for his commitment and dedication, as we continue to roll out out the programme, aimed at encouraging mass participation in sports and recreational activities.

A majority of our partners were present yesterday at the Mkhiweni Inkhundla. It was an exciting day indeed, as our National Sports Associations were also present in their numbers as well to ensure that Mkhiweni folk had a blast.

The lives of the Mkhiweni people will never be the same again after yesterday’s event.

Our official fitness instructors, the S Team Fitness Academy delivered an awesome aerobic session, which was enjoyed by both the young and old.

We will be announcing our next destination soonest. Just get ready to welcome us at your inkhundla and you will be glad you did. One Shukuma at a time!

Eswatini Boxing Association (EBA) President, Webster Lukhele, has done us proud after being elected into the African Boxing Commission Board.

His election is obviously good news, not just for the local boxing association but for the entire sporting fraternity. He has put the country’s name on the spotlight for all the right reasons. His election into the Board could be said to be the silver lining in a dark cloud, following the disappointing showing of our boxers. It is worth mentioning that the president was elected during the Congress, which was held concurrently with the recently ended Zone VI Championships. They were staged in Maputo, Mozambique.

The local pugilists may not have been able to make podium finishes but there is no doubt that they learnt their lessons well. There are no shortcuts to success. The more they get exposure and face the best, the more they learn and improve. We take the opportunity to congratulate Lukhele for his election. We have no doubt that this will herald a new era for our sports, especially when considering the fact that former EBA president, Pearl Dlamini is also in the International Boxing Association (IBA) Board following her election earlier in the year.

All the best to both of them, as they attempt to uplift the local game! On the same note, we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate police outfit Royal Leopard for advancing into the next stage of the continental Champions League. We are fully aware that it is still early days but the fact that the locals have been able to dump out of the tournament, their opponents from Madagascar, means there is obviously light at the end of the tunnel.

We wish Leopard well, as they proceed to the next round. It will not be easy but we have complete faith in our representatives. We know that they will do us proud.

We also congratulate the country’s Under-23 football national squad for their solid showing on Friday against Botswana. They won 2-0 to put themselves in an advantage ahead of the second leg encounter, billed for Botswana. They too can advance to the next round with proper preparations and focus.

Until next week, sports for all; sports for life.
