Lifestyle audit for SNAT leaders stopped

-

M– Some delegates of the SNAT conference expressed some dissatisfaction as a motion to have a lifestyle audit for the union’s NEC members was dropped.

The Manzini branch of SNAT moved a motion that there should be a lifestyle audit for members of the union’s National Executive Committee (NEC). However, other felt that it would be costly and the union might lose more money, while investigating something that was neither here nor there.

However, the mover (Manzini branch of SNAT) said by lifestyle audit, they meant that the NEC members should declare the assets they have when they assume office and do the same thing when their term comes to an end. In that regard, the branch said there would be no financial implications.

On the same note, the Lubombo branch seconded the motion and said a lifestyle audit for NEC members could protect both the organisation and members in office. It said its view was that the lifestyle audit would protect members who might be targeted by people who were after their image. It also added that declaring assets did not have financial implications.

“Costs can be involved if there are suspicions which need to be investigated,” the Lubombo branch added.

However, when the branches voted, they had a tie and the motion was dropped. When the resolutions committee announced that motion was dropped and would not be part of the conference resolutions, some members were heard bickering and while other wondered if the suggestion was not supported because there people promoting that NEC members should squander the union’s funds.
