Imbuyiselo
MBABANE – Imbuyiselo Academy dominated the competition and won trophies in the first Schools Mini-tennis Festival, which was held on Friday.
The mini-tennis festival was sponsored by Kwakitsi Foundation, which injected a E10 000 sponsorship that went towards medals and trophies. Imbuyiselo Academy is based in Siteki and led by Coach Njabulo Mbhamali.
At least 83 children from four schools attended the event, although three schools competed except for Living Waters, who arrived late. It was a point-system competition and the players accumulated points for their school. Imbuyiselo dominated both the Under-10 and Under-8 divisions.
Mbhamali highlighted the need to improve schools tennis by creating more training sessions for the children. He also thanked the sponsor for hosting the first schools mini-tennis festival, which he said was crucial for tennis development at grass roots level.
“It’s a good start to organise a mini-tennis festival for development purposes. We train every day and host in-house competitions every weekend, so I hope that the other schools will up their game in order to make such events more competitive and fun,” Mbhamali said.
Kwakitsi Foundation’s Communications Officer Nomalungelo Dladla, said they were proud to partner with the Eswatini Tennis Association (ETA) and also contributing towards nurturing young talent for long-term life benefits.

TALENT
“Kwakitsi Foundation believes in sports, team work and building cultural values. We hope this will be a continuous partnership between Kwakitsi Foundation and the ETA” Dladla said.
Coach Jerry Fears, who was the event’s coordinator thanked the sponsor for supporting tennis development in the country.
“It was a fun competition and thank you to our sponsor for their support. The winners were motivated with trophies and medals for the champions. We hope to have more festivals because we are trying to have the children involved in tennis at a young age and have more schools involved in tennis,” Fears said.
He also thanked the ETA executive for continuously engaging with sponsors in order to have continuous tennis tournaments throughout the year.
