MATSAPHA- Winners galore!
This best describes the Macmillan Schools Poetry and Writing Competition Grand Finale, where 20 secondary pupils were competing against each other and won.
The grand finale was hosted at Esibayeni Lodge on Friday.
The sponsors included Cerium Scientific, Old Mutual and Autozone.
The competition was an astounding success from the rendition of electrifying performances by local poets and performers, to remarks by guests and sponsors.
The 20 winners went away with novels, tablets and power banks, courtesy of the sponsors.
Emotions
One of the winners, Cebolenkhosi Shongwe, was a ball of emotions as she screamed and cried in joy, after securing a win in the poetry competition in the senior category.
Shongwe said she could not believe that she was among the winners in the tight competition where every contestant put their A game.
“I would like to thank my teachers for the immense support they showed me while preparing for the competition, and to Macmillan and the sponsors for making this event a success. This win is an indication that my dreams of becoming a writer are valid and I will follow them through till the end,” she said.
Congratulated
The emotional winner also congratulated the rest of the winners of the competition.
Meanwhile, Minister of Education and Training, represented by Under Secretary Schools Manager, Lungelo Nhlengethwa, appreciated Macmillan for its generous support in the form of sponsorship. She mentioned that such a gesture was highly appreciated.
“The truth of the matter is where budgets are concerned, we cannot always adequately fund all activities as a ministry. Once again thank you Macmillan Education Eswatini for what you’ve done for us,’’ the minister said.
She commended the contestants’ courage in participating and their teachers for an activity they did not see as a burden.
