Locals dominate radio charts
MBABANE - Local artists are back to dominating the EBIS radio charts as a total of 12 emaSwati creatives feature in this week’s Eswatini Top 20 chart show.
The 12 feature in 10 different songs, representing half of the weekly countdown.
The highest placed local artists this week are the duo of Young Zesh and Lyrikal Busta, whose former number one song ‘KaKhoza’ moved up a notch from three to two, possibly propelled by the renewed social media frenzy over the song in the past two weeks amid the release of its much talked about official music video.
The second highest placed local artist this week is Amanda Mo, whose latest release ‘Kuyavela’ is striking a chord with radio listeners. Laden with Amapiano strings and log drums, ‘Kuyavela’ moved from number five to four, displacing Manana from the top five slot. DJ Cup and Mvelo, a duo that has a song of the year in the past with ‘Happiness’ featuring Slotta maintained the sixth position on the charts with their summer banger ‘Overflow’.
Debuted
The song has been doing well on the charts for 13 straight weeks, as it debuted in the top 10 some three months ago.
Afro Soul and Jazz maestro Manana receded three places to land at number seven this week, while !Sooks and Velemseni dropped two places to number 10 from eight. Saxophonist and Jazz musician Zwile Bhembe made the list of local artists who made a mark this week, as his song ‘Khushu’ retained the 11th position. The song is taken off ‘After the rain’ EP, a project that was dropped to massive acclaim across all media platforms. Notably, Bhembe is one of the most sought after performers by promoters within and outside Eswatini.
The incredible collaboration between House spinner-cum-producer DJ MBO and Eswatini’s most decorated music artist Bholoja continues to amuse many, as their song ‘Siyetulu’ has consolidated its place on the charts having debuted six weeks ago. ESWATINI TOP 20 CHARTS FOR WEEK ENDING SEPT 30, 2022 – EBIS 2 (91.6FM/98.1FM)
Tizalami’ Dube and Bongani ‘Bobo’ Dlamini, are based on radio spins across various radio shows on both EBIS1 and EBIS2 channels. Social media impact also contributes to the weighting in determining chart positions, they explained.
Mandisa Mamba, who is set to officially release her new album anytime from now, also featured on the charts with the song ‘OHBD’, while the country’s queen of Hip Hop Oriiginelle scored a hat trick with ‘Sundays’ (three weeks at number 15). Oriiginelle boasts of a couple of number one songs previously.
Solo
Lyrikal Busta makes a solo appearance with ‘Bantfwami’, a song that debuted into the charts a week ago. While still pegged at number 17, the internet breaking song is set to become one of his biggest songs thus far.
