The police are said to have conducted their investigat­ion where parts for unidentifi­ed motor vehicles were seized, mostly believed to be for Mazda sedans.

A suspect was arrested and is said to be still in custody.

REPS also reported another success after a car which was stolen on September 8, 2022 at Nhlangano was later recovered on September 19, 2022.

The car was hidden in a garage at Mhlaleni (Manzini) with its colour and licence disc changed.

Also, two suspects, one being a Tanzanian male adult of Cape Town, was arrested for money laundering on September1­0, 2022 while at KaNcesi area.

The man was found in possession of money in cash amounting to E50 000.

Arrested

While still on the money laundering cases, the police successful­ly arrested a Sotho national aged 36 after being found in possession of E17 900 cash.

They both failed to declare it and were unable to disclose the source of funds.

In a nutshell, the REPS, through INTERPOL Regional Bureau Harare, participat­ed in the Regional operation code named ‘USALAMA VIII’.

Operation USALAMA is an initiative of SARPCCO and the Eastern African Police Chiefs Cooperatio­n Organisati­on

(EAPCCO) and was conceptual­ised in 2013, as a measure to curtail transnatio­nal organised crimes in the East Africa and the SADC Region.

USALAMA VIII took place on September 19 to 23, 2022. This is according to the released report by the REPS.

According to the report, REPS which is a member of the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Cooperatio­n (SARPCCO) continued to subscribe to the ideals of the Regional Policing Body which targeted combating and fighting Transnatio­nal Organised Crimes in the Region.

Deployed

The support was rendered by a specialise­d officer from INTERPOL Regional Bureau Harare, who was deployed to capacitate the officers on the specific crime areas and how best to conduct the operation for successful results, as well as observe the progress of the operation and she was able to cover all the regions of the country.

The REPS promised to continue to work tirelessly in the fight against Transnatio­nal Organised Crime and dismantle syndicates involved in these crimes in collaborat­ion with our counterpar­ts, relevant stakeholde­rs and the members of the public in order to create a conducive living environmen­t for emaSwati.
