New PUDEMO president by year end

MANZINI - In the last three months of the year, the term of the People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO) President, Mlungisi Makhanya, with his executive, will lapse.

Makhanya, who took the baton to lead PUDEMO from deceased former President Mario Masuku, with his national executive committee (NEC), will have to contest in the upcoming elections if they want to retain their political positions. This follows that this past weekend, the political party, which is classified as a proscribed entity by government, held its national general council (NGC) in Driekoppie­s, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa between October 1 and 2, 2022.

The NGC, according to the Secretary General (SG) of PUDEMO, Wandile Dludlu, among its resolution­s, was that they shall convene their national elective congress as stipulated by PUDEMO’s constituti­on.

When asked when would the elections wIhetnesxa­ectely be held, Dludlu said: “The elections shall be hosted before the end of the year.” The SG did not commit to a precise date just like he could not state office was going to expire; save to say it was before the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Dludlu said the NGC was convened to discuss, among other things, the state of readiness of the political party’s structures for the upcoming 10th General Congress and to also converse on ‘unifying the struggles of the masses against

Dludlu said they also discussed building common understand­ing of their current situation and PUDEMO’s future prospects as the vanguard of the revolution­ary struggles to free the emaSwati from the alleged oppression of Tinkhundla System of Government, patriarchy, neo-colonialis­m and imperialis­m.

He said having discussed the importance of recognisin­g and denouncing all acts of gender-based exploitati­on, patriarchy, xenophobia, religious fundamenta­lism, State terrorism and structural judicial oppression as alleged products of Tinkhundla System of Government and imperialis­m, Dludlu said they collective­ly expressed the need of achieving a free, democratic, united, prosperous Eswatini for the
