- BY NTOKOZO MAGONGO

MBABANE – Royal Leopard will face a highly-motivated Coton Sport in the first leg of the CAF Champions League second round on Sunday.

This is because the Cameroon side have just been crowned the winners of the 2022 edition of the Cameroon Cup, following their narrow 1-0 victory over Bamboutos FC of Mbouda at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaounde, on Sunday.

Coton Sport are expected to arrive in the country today for the game against the police side to be played on Sunday at Mavuso Sports Centre. Kick-off time is 3pm.

Relegated

The winner between the two sides will enter the group stages of the tournament, while the loser will be relegated to the play-offs of the second-tier tournament styled CAF Confederation Cup.

According to cafonline.com, 21-year-old Captain Souaibou Marou, scored a late winner, as Coton Sport ended their seven years barren run in the Cameroon

Cup.

Two times Cameroon Cup winning Coach Emmanuel Ndoumbe Bosso led the Mangwa Boys from the dugout, against his former employers, with the hopes of winning Bamboutos’ first ever honour in the club’s 56-year-old history, after previously leading one time TOTALEnergies CAF champions league winners Union Sportive of Douala and Yong Sports Academy to glory

Double

Coton Sport, who had won their 17th Cameroon league title in July this year, have now won their first domestic double since 2014.

It is the Cotton weaver’s seventh domestic double after they previously won same in 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2014. Only twotime CAF Champions League winners, Canon of Yaounde, with their 10 Cameroon Cup trophies, have done better than Coton Sport.

Royal Leopard, on the other hand, are fresh from settling for a 1-all draw against Manzini Sea Birds in their MTN Premier League opening fixture last Sunday.
