MBABANE – “As Mangololo, we are not saying all is well with our Tinkhundla System of Government, we are saying let emaSwati determine their own freedom and democracy.”
This was said by Mangololo Eswatini Chairperson Pastor Phetsa Dlamini, in a statement issued yesterday.
Dlamini said emaSwati should be given a chance to determine their democracy from their own homegrown system for homegrown advantage as enshrined in the 2005 Eswatini Constitution.
He said as Mangololo, they were saying there was a need to acknowledge the fact that, a lot had been achieved by emaSwati since independence under the monarchical democracy and there was still room for improvement.
He said as Mangololo, they were also saying, yes maybe time had evolved, but it was pointless to throw away bathing water with a child inside, simply because one could not control their anger.
Developed
He said it took a reasonable and sober mind to realise Tinkhundla System had actually developed this country in many facets.
He said it was also disheartening to hear some Members of Parliament, who were supposed to be defending Tinkhundla System, changing tunes, calling Tinkhundla Inunu, something that its meaning had never been clarified to the nation a year later.
Dlamini said before someone punched holes in the government machinery shortcomings, as Mangololo they were cognisant of the fact that, over 1 500 emaSwati students graduated every year through the government loan scholarship programme, which many of emaSwati had not been able to repay even 10 years later.
“We need, as emaSwati, to reason with our children that government is also being owed by us millions of Emalangeni hence the financial challenges the university is faced with,” said Dlamini.
He added that every year, government made it a point that, all students got their education scholarship for new university enrolments.
He noted that this year alone, government was ready to graduate over 3 000 students, but still no one bothered mentioning all that before criticism.
He said that was why sometimes politics were unreasonable to the detriment of ignoring even something that even a child could notice.
