SITEKI - SOS Children’s Village, in partnership with Malkerns Valley Rotary Club, has successfully launched the Lusabeni Livestock Farming Project at Lusabeni, a community in Big Bend, under the Nkilongo Constituency.

SOS Children’s Village has recently reached out to offer their services to the community to ensure that members have sustainable livelihood.

Hlobsile Sikhosana, who is the SOS Children’s Villages Fundraising Manager, presented to the community members and KaNgcamphalala Chiefdom leadership of Lusabeni and Ncandweni about the new project that would be established in the community.

The over 100 community members warmly welcomed the project and applauded SOS for the initiative and further appreciated that they were selected as a new community where SOS would be offering their family strengthening services.

Income

Unpacking the project, Sikhosana said the Lusabeni Livestock Farming Project was a livestock rearing income generating project that SOS wished to successfully implement as it would benefit both the community and the children in the care of SOS Children’s Village under Alternative Care.

She said the project was located in a 10 hectare piece of land donated to SOS Children’s Village by the chiefdom.

“This project shall assist in attaining the first and second sustainable development goals of ending poverty in all its forms everywhere and ending hunger as well as achieving food security and improving nutrition while promoting sustainable agriculture. The project is aligned with government priorities of rebuilding the economy through agriculture,” she said.

Nkilongo Member of Parliament (MP) Timothy Myeni said they were pleased with the project and pledged support towards the project and other initiatives that SOS Children’s Village would bring forth to his constituency as such was fundamental in projecting future development of Nkilongo.

SOS Children’s Village is currently implementing its 2030 strategy through the implementation of strategic initiatives, which empowers young people and ensures that employability so that they could become fully independent and self-sufficient. Through these projects, SOS Children’s Village is committed to improving the lives of young people, their families and communities.
