Over 800 register, room for more
MBABANE – “This is an event for a good cause that is why the registration is still open.”
This statement was made by Athletics Eswatini (AE) Public Relations Officer (PRO) Victor ‘Mavikane’ Dlamini, as he said the registration for the inaugural Vusi Masuku Half Marathon was still open.
Dlamini confirmed that the registration, which was supposed to be closed on Wednesday, had been shifted to close of business today.
“We anticipated that by close of business yesterday (Wednesday) the registration would be closed, but since this is an event for a good cause we decided to shift it to tomorrow (today) or even on the day of the event,” Dlamini explained.
He said they wanted to give everyone a chance to be part of the event, as they were targeting around 1 200 athletes.
“Currently we have over 800 registered athletes, but we are hoping of reaching the target we set and I must say that preparations are at an advanced stage” he said.
He then explained that the event was to generate money to help the families and school children who were being taken care of by the late Masuku.
Cost
Dlamini also said those interested to be part of the initiative should visit the Eswatini Sport and RecreationCouncil (ESRC) and Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) for registration, which cost E50 per athlete. “We have three events which are the 21km, 10km and 5km and one must part with E50 to be part of each of the event,” he said.
