Sir,

In the book of John we have a list of seven miracles performed by Jesus. Each of these miracles makes clear the point that it’s only the Son of God who can do such miracles! The seventh miracle is the pinnacle and it is recorded in John 11. Lazarus, a good friend of Jesus, was dead. Jesus had been notified to come quickly by Lazarus’ sisters, Mary and Martha, but Jesus continued teaching and working for two more days before He started for the home of Lazarus in Bethany.

When Jesus finally arrived in Bethany, Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days and it had begun to decompose. Lazarus’ family was long past having hope as he was already dead, buried and the grave sealed.

Grieving

In verse 20, we come face to face with a deeply grieving Martha. She confronts Jesus; “Lord, if you had been here my brother would not have died.” By the way, Jesus did not just miss the opening song or the obituary, but He missed the whole funeral. In Martha’s mind, Jesus was very late; kingdom because of the entry requirements. I am sure there are many more cancellations daily at present because

He was four days late!

Dear reader, in this life no one is immune to troubles and trials. There will be times when we will feel Jesus is very late to intervene in our situation. We pray but it will seem as if our prayer will never be answered. In such times it will seem as if God has turned a deaf ear to your cry. Things can even go from very bad to worse and may seem as if there is no visible way out.

Feeling

At such a time, many will have a feeling that God has waited too long and unbelief and hopelessness will rise. This is when the devil will whisper the lie that he always whispers in the spiritual ear of everyone in distress; “it’s over and there is nothing that God can or will do about it now.” If he can get you to give up on God, then he has accomplished his goal.

However, let me give you assurance; even when you think Jesus is four days late know for sure that He is still on time. God’s time is not ours. God may not answer or deliver you when you expect Him to.

He may not give you the answer you need until you think it’s far too late but
