MALKERNS – Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Darius Dlomo has implored the 28 coaches who have completed a threeweek Tennis Coaching Course to be innovative.

This will help in implementing the skills they acquired for the growth and development of tennis in Eswatini.

Dlomo made this remarks during the coaches’ graduation ceremony held on Wednesday evening at Malkerns Sports and Country Club.

At least 18 teachers took part in the ‘Play and Stay’ coaching foundation course. There was a further 10 who completed a Tennis Coaching Refresher Course.

The course was facilitated by Kenyan expert Tennis Coach George Oyo.

Possible

The exercise was made possible through the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) that awarded the Eswatini Tennis Association (ETA) with E500 000 (US$30 000) funding sourced from the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the Association of the National Olympic Committee (ANOC).

“For tennis to thrive, we need coaches who will be innovative. I challenge you, therefore, to synthesise the basic skills that you have acquired with your own methods and if you do that, tennis will grow. These were just the foundations for you to work on and thank you to Coach George Oyo for capacitating our coaches whom we are now planting across all regions to expand the sport,” Dlomo said.

ETA President Derick Jele said the coaches would progress to a Level One Tennis Coaching Course penned to start in January 2023. Jele thanked the national Olympic committee for sourcing and awarding ETA with the sponsorship, further assuring the ECGA President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa, who graced the event alongside EOCGA CEO Maxwell

Jele of using the sponsorship for a fruitful cause.

“It’s been our dream to get the coaching certification going since January when I came into office. Developing our coaches was a vision started by the former president Jele.

“I am sure that it won’t end here and as Dlomo has said, be innovative and progress to Level One Coaching course,” Jele said.

EOCGA president disclosed that ETA was the only association that applied for the funding and were successful. He said the application for programmed development was open through application via EOCGA.
