Reaping results of corruption

-

Sir,

The slow wheels of implementing anything in this kingdom has come back to haunt us and, sadly, Eswatini is reaping the results of many years of corruption and the appointment of incapable individuals into political positions and into every institution of the State. With the government machinery seemingly failing on all fronts, a new cadre of leadership is desperately needed.

The nation is in need of leaders who will care about poverty reduction, community safety, job creation and social inclusion. There can be little doubt that poverty and crime would go down and living standards would improve for everyone in the kingdom if we were to have people who are prepared to work for the greater good of this country.

Consistent

Also, devolution is consistent with the constitutional principle of subsidiarity, which holds that social issues should be dealt with at the lowest effective level. Bringing government as close as possible to the people tends to yield better outcomes by increasing responsiveness, knowledge, accountability lives, grow the economy and offer Eswatini a way to bend her trajectory towards progress, social inclusion and shared prosperity. We need leaders to put the lame, backbiting, jealousy and petty politics talk aside and delve into real issues that will assist this country.

We are in desperate need of leaders who will look at the bigger picture and do what is right for the nation. Why are we not being cutthroat in our approaches to make Eswatini a much better nation? There are many people who still live on hand-outs; they literally wait for government to announce the next food distribution exercise for a somewhat decent meal and this should be a serious cause for concern.
