MBABANE - These days talent competitio­ns are global phenomenon­s with the likes of ‘X Factor’, ‘Idols’ and the ‘Got Talent’ franchises which transform ordinary people with notable talent into global superstars.

0any of these winners come from all corners of the world, live very normal lives and try their shot at fame by showcasing their raw singing ability for much needed votes. (arlier this year, a

year old high school learner, 6amantha 0aka bongwe 0khaliphi from 0babane, took a chance and entered an online song cover contest through her school, U&7 Online +igh 6chool. 7he school launched their own talent competitio­n with a call to its learners to enter with their best cover of the of ficial school song in order to win a cash prize of (

6he entered the competi tion on Instagram with her own rendition of the school song titled µWe Own 7he )uture¶, showcasing her uniTue voice and personal ity, which instantly caught the attention of the school¶s Mudging team.

After many hopeful en tries from across the coun try, 0khaliphi gathered the most votes from the Mudging panel to take the winning title and cash prize. When reached for comment she said ³I feel so blessed and happy about winning the school song competitio­n. I would love to thank the school for the opportunit­y to showcase our talents, as we needed a platform. We have so much talent, once again I am truly honoured to be part of U&7 Online +igh 6chool.´

According to 0khaliphi she plans to use her win nings to pay for e[penses for an album she¶d like to release, and she¶s hoping she can collaborat­e with other well known artists. 6he continues her high school studies through the innovative online high school until she obtains her 0atric certificat­e.
