Asian businessma­n shot dead by unknown people

MBABANE – A young Asian businessma­n was shot dead on Thursday by unknown people. Sahid Dawjee ( ) was, at some point, a manager at Spice World in Mbabane.

It couldn¶t be ascertaine­d if he was still working for this shop at the time of his death.

Social media was abuzz over his death on Thursday and )riday, with the people who knew him e[pressing grief and sorrow in the manner in which he died.

They described him as a humble person who did not deserve to die in this fashion, urging the police to leave no stone unturned in their investigat­ion into his untimely death.

+e was allegedly shot in the head in his flat in Mbabane. There is one theory to the effect that he was killed in the full view of his wife and children.

Dawjee was confirmed dead upon arrival at the Mbabane Clinic. Sources said the incident occurred at around pm on Thursday.

GUNSHOTS

Sources said they heard gunshots at his flat, triggering them to rush to his flat, only to find him in a pool of blood.

A businessma­n around Mbabane who preferred to remain anonymous pleaded with the 5oyal (swatini Police Service to investigat­e the spate of killings of Asians in (swatini.

+e said while the nation was friendly to the Asian community, it appeared there was a dangerous mafia operating in the country and targeting Asians.

³There is a syndicate who operates within the Asian community who has been hired to kill some of us for reasons best known to themselves,” alleged the businessme­n.

What actually made things a bit complicate­d, he said, there were certain nationals who had elevated themselves to positions of authority and leadership among the Asian community.

+e said these people were controllin­g them by issuing orders.

+e said many of his fellow nationals were afraid of confrontin­g them as they were µuntouchab­le¶ such that they feared crossing their path.

The source mentioned that they had been warning one another about the danger of irking these people as they were very dangerous.

DEATH THREATS

Another Asian alleged they were living under death threats from their fellow countrymen.

+e said it was dishearten­ing that they were unprotecte­d from these powerful people as they appeared to be systematic­ally connected to an e[tent that reporting them for crime could really put their lives in danger.

+e said these people were even aware of any investigat­ion that was to be instituted against them.

+e said while they were uncertain about motives behind the killings, but they were aware of the suspects who were terrorisin­g them.

Meanwhile, Deputy Police Informatio­n and Communicat­ions Officer Inspector Nosipho Mnguni confirmed that there were reports of a shooting that claimed the life of a resident of Mbabane.

She said police were still investigat­ing the matter.

When asked to comment about the allegation­s of the µuntouchab­le¶ Asian nationals, Mnguni said she would not want to comment on allegation­s.

She said all citizens of (swatini were protected, urging them to relay informatio­n to the police that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.

She said police did justice in their intensive investigat­ion and treated all communitie­s and people fairly and justly.
