-

MBABANE – A 34-year-old man is demanding E2 million from Malolotja Game Reserve after being allegedly assaulted and tortured by rangers.

Mfanukhona Thabiso Mncina said the incident happened on September 29, 2022 at 1pm around Ncenceni. He said he was at a homestead of one Sifiso Dlamini.

He alleged that game rangers assaulted him heavily all over the body, without lawful justification. Mncina alleged that he had not committed any offence when he was assaulted.

TORTURE

According to Mncina, the alleged assault and torture happened in full view of members of the public, including Jamani, Sifiso Dlamini, Comfort Dlamini and others in the area.

He accused the rangers of leaving him unattended after the alleged assault and torture.

He said he was taken to Pigg’s Peak Government Hospital where he incurred medical expenses since he underwent treatment, psychological and trauma assessments.

He alleged that at all material times, the game rangers were acting within the course and scope of their employment at Malolotja Game Reserve.

COMMAND

Mncina submitted that the game rangers were acting allegedly on the direct command of the game reserve, which was vicariously liable.

“In the premise and as a result of the unlawful assault and torture, our client has suffered damages in the amount of E2 million for which the Malolotja Game Reserve and game rangers on duty are liable,” he said. The veracity of these allegations is still to be tested and Mncina is represented by Leo Ndvuna Dlamini of L.N. Dlamini and Associates.
