MPS SHOW LEADERSHIP

-

It may be true that plans by 0em bers of 3arliament 03s) to kick start a dialogue process would be a waste of time, just as some political formations have observed.

+owever, that they are now con cerned about the socio political in stability in Eswatini and want to do something about it is commendable.

As the saying goes, ‘better late than never.’ The august +ouse has been widely blamed for failing to play its oversight role and compel government to end the unrest that began in 0ay . )or the most part, parliamentarians have gone about their business as if all was well, yet there was glaring evidence that Eswatini was a ticking time bomb that could explode anytime.

0etaphorically speaking, this bomb has exploded, throwing the country into a series of arson and murder incidents. 0illions of Ema langeni worth of property has also been lost.

The kingdom is definitely experi encing a second wave of the unrest that first culminated in the now infamous -une , events.

This was when security forces came out guns bla]ing to Tuell riots and shot dead do]ens of un armed people. /ater, two 03s in 0thandeni 'ube and Bacede 0abu]a were arrested and charged with allegedly inciting the violence.

6till, most of their colleagues in 3arliament went about their normal business. 2nly a few weeks ago did they begin to understand that public anger would not be wished away without all concerned parties being called to the round table.

They tried to make government see sense but their pleas for a dia logue were ignored.

Now they have decided to es tablish a subcommittee that will engage all aggrieved in a ‘dialogue before dialogue.’ By taking this stance, they have shown true lead ership.

+owever, without the buy in of the country’s leadership at the top, this would indeed, be a futile exercise.
