SIPHOCOSINI – Parents have stressed on the importance of involving children in sports.

The parents were interviewed this past Sunday during the SNG Open Water Challenge, which was held at Luphohlo Dam.

Some of the parents who came to support their children during the race were the Krugers, the Hoys, Wilsch and Youngs, to mention but a few.

Coenraad Kruger came along with his son Marcus. The father did not only come to support his son but also participated and won the one mile (30 and over category) after clocking a time of 32:49 minutes. His son came second in the one mile (14-30 category) after finishing the race in 28:03 minutes. Dinize Wilsch, who is also a renowned cyclist, also came to support her daughters in Danika and Ivana. She also participated in the race. Michelle said her child was very passionate about the sport.

“From her young age, Haley loved swimming and I support her wherever she is competing. From the age of three, she loved swimming. She started her level zero gala when she was four. To see her pursue her passion is such a blessing for me. It is something that she is not forced to do. She has been swimming for the past 11 years and it has been a very fulfilling journey,” said Michelle.

Asked what her highlight was, she said it was seeing Hayley at the Commonwealth Games and World Championships. To see her on television achieving everything she has worked hard for and something she is passionate about was a such a blessing,” she added.
