ACAESWA president clarifies shock exit

MBABANE - ACAESWA President Phetsile Masilela has stepped down as head of the associatio­n.

The news of the $ssociation of Christian $rtists in Eswatini($C$E6 :$) leader’s resignatio­n came in a press statement. It was stated that when 0asilela was re elected as president during an $nnual General 0eeting ($G0), she mentioned that she had more responsibi­lities at work and elsewhere and did not think she would be in a position to discharge her duties well as president. 6he did not elude these facts.

³6he was persuaded by the $G0 to earnestly consider taking up the pres idency and delegate most of her duties to her vice president. 6he obliged and tried the $G0’s recommenda­tions up to now.

³+owever, due to further additional responsibi­lities, she has found herself with no option but to resign as pres ident of $C$E6:$,´ said 0tetwa 4wabe, %oard Chair 6ecretary of $C$E6:$.

It is worth noting that history was made on$ugust , , as the Gospel artist was elected as the first female president of the associatio­n.

6ince its inception over years ago, the associatio­n had eight presidents including 6ikelela 4wabe, 'umis ani 0anana, 1tsika )akud]e, 1athi 'lamini, 0hlonishwa 0otsa, =akhele Ginind]a, 0]wakhe 0yeni and the associatio­n’s convener, 0athoko]a 0tetwa.

Decision

The decision was made by members of the associatio­n at their $G0 held at Caritas conference room in 0an]ini.

0asilela and the rest of the executive council were in office for three years before she was re elected.

0xolisi 9ilakati was chosen as 9ice ±3resident while 1hlanhla 0athunMwa and %rian 6habangu were elected as 35O and 5ecording 6ecretary, in that order.

:hen reached for comment, 0a silela sincerely apologised to all the members of the associatio­n and the Gospel lovers.

³0y resignatio­n as president is sin cerely out of love for the members of the associatio­n so that things µdon’t die in my hands’ while I’m busy with other assignment­s that need my undivided attention. I have taken time to pray about this. I know and I’m confident that God is with us. +e loves us and +e will do everything for +is own glory.

³Over the four years we have achieved so much. This includes the rebranding of the associatio­n /ockdown Gospel 0usic $wards back to school shoe campaign for

needy children contributi­ons to the Intellectu­al 3roperty regulation­s implementa­tion and setting up of the %oard Gospel 0usic $wards and many more,´ explained 0asilela in a long and heartfelt statement.

The now former pres ident mentioned that she appreciate­d the opportunit­y that was awarded to her, es pecially the chance to explore her leadership skills. /astly, she assured that she was still a member of the asso ciation, ³I will ad vise and support where I can,´ she said.
