Human Rights Commission never mentioned thugs- TUCOSWA

-

MANZINI – “The Human Rights Commission confirmed 46 persons to have died.

There was no mention of thugs having killed these people,” says the Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA).

Secretary General of TUCOSWA Mduduzi Gina claimed that in June 2021, close to 100 civilians were massacred by State security personnel. He wondered if the thugs were supposedly security personnel.

Gina alleged that security personnel shot people indiscriminately and that there were witnesses to these shootings, as some survived and could give testimony on who attempted to kill them and how.

“Ours would be to invite the likes of the prime minister to be first honest to themselves, then to the nation in order to be respected, not only by the nation but the entire international community,” Gina said.

He said this in response to Prime Minister Cleopas Dlamini, who before requesting the Indlovukazi to address the congregants, informed the former President of the Republic of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, that thugs were killing people in the country.

Opposing

He said the nation was not fighting among itself, but only thugs were killing those who were opposing their views.

“I want to inform you president that it is just a few individuals who are saying they were not present when the current Constitution was crafted and, therefore, they do not want it. We are not at war against one another but thugs have seized the opportunity and started killing innocent people. Our biggest worry is that what kind of precedent we would be setting if we allow people to kill each other if they want something changed in the Constitution?” he asked.

Dlamini said the country was committed to a dialogue process but the killings were making it difficult for such a process to start.

Meanwhile, Gina said TUCOSWA’s principle has always supported the peaceful resolution of any dispute, be it political, religious, economic or any other.

He said fights would always occur if the dialogue option is not pursued. Gina said taking up an armed struggle was a dangerous persuasion model because it had casualties.
