MBABANE - UNESWA Registrar Dr Salebona Simelane says the issue of students complaining of taking a bath or shower with cold water is not new to the institution.

He said the institution was also not proud of the issue.

He was responding to a question that on campus students had been complaining about only getting cold water anytime they took their shower.

Dr Simelane revealed that some students were probably either stealing internet routers within the institution or alerting some people as to where the equipment was placed. He said the culprits were, in most cases, never apprehended, yet the theft occurred in student hostels.

Theft

“Some of the students have been arrested by Matsapha police for the theft of copper wires. They were disconnecting certain wires that conduct electricity to the geysers.

“This kind of infrastructure damage costs the institution immensely. We try to fix the damaged property but the following week, discover that certain components haves been stolen again,” he said.

He said they discovered, during investigations, that some students were the ones that were committing the crimes.

He also said some students were aware of the people costing the institution, but failed to disclose their identities.

Property

“The management does not steal the institution’s property. The issue of routers theft is taking place in all our three campuses (Luyengo, Kwaluseni and Mbabane) at an alarming rate,” he said.

Simelane said the management was not resting on its laurels and doing nothing regarding the maintenance challenges.

“We are doing quite a lot as a management in as far as the issues faced by the students is concerned,” he narrated.

The registrar condemned the students’ actions of bringing strangers to the institution during their protests, as some of the strangers ended up stealing and burning down the institution’s infrastructure.
