MBABANE – In an effort to produce competitive athletes, the Athletics Eswatini (AE) has tightened the screws regarding participation in track and field ahead of the National Championships.
/ocal athletes are expected to take onto the tracks at Mavuso Sports Centre for the second track and field on Sunday.
The first one was held a fortnight ago. AE Public 5elations Officer (P5O) 9ictor ‘Mavikane’ 'lamini said it was a prereTuisite for athletes to participate in the event in order to partake in the National Champions to be staged around May.
³Athletes must know that we’re preparing for our national champions h i p s and so, basically you won’t be allowed to participate in them without having gone through these preparatory events.
³ Over athletes and eight clubs took part in the first track and field event held on )ebruary 11. 'lamini then encouraged teams to send athletes in numbers for this upcoming event. The registration deadline for this Sunday’s event is tomorrow midnight. Entries can be sent to AE office to the Chief Operations Officer (COO) Thoba Mazibuko on or via the email VZ]#PI ZRUOGDWKOHWLFV RUJ. ³They must take serious the track and field. ³The time has come for the country to produce and send athletes to international competitions who will compete. ³The commitment begins at home from every athletics stakeholder so that we perform better beyond the country’s borders,” he added. The P5O further encouraged parents and guardians of the athletes to imitate international practices of watching athletes during such similar events. +e stated that this was a motivation for the athletes to push their limits.
