NHLANGANO – A suspect, believed to be the kingpin in the mob justice that happened at Dulini, wherein a 78-year-old man died after he was attacked on allegations that he was sexually violating pupils around the area, has been arrested.

The incident happened last Thursday at Dulini in the Shiselweni Region. The now deceased elderly man was identified as Thwala and was originally from Jericho but resided at Dulini.

Thwala was found with a missing pupil of the area, a few days before he was killed. He was later confronted by a group of community members, who consisted mostly of pupils.

It was later discovered during police investigations that the now arrested alleged kingpin was the one who convinced the pupils who were coming from soccer training to go attack the elderly man.

Disappeared

After the man had died and police were called, most pupils and other community members disappeared in the community and only three were arrested. A pupil aged 15 was among the three who were initially arrested, including a woman (28), while eight others are wanted.

They left their homes and had not been going to school since the incident occured as the police made several attempts to track them down. They also escaped from home as their parents had promised to hand them over to the police upon their return, but none of them had been seen in the area since.

Among the people who disappeared was the alleged kingpin who was arrested yesterday by the police after he was spotted in the area and some community members raised the alarm to the police and he was eventually arrested on Tuesday night.

Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed that they arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with the mob justice that happened at Dulini. The three others were presented in court and were remanded in custody, pending committal to High Court. The arrested man will be conjoined with the others in court tomorrow.
