MBABANE – A 30-year-old man is currently out on bail for violence-related charges and robbery committed at a popular drinking spot known as Ngisana Bar at Mahwalala.

Linda ‘Jiyas’ Kunene has since appeared before Magistrate Chazile Thwala charged with robbery. According to the charge sheet, Kunene threatened one Siphamandl­a Simelane with a bush knife to induce submission of items valued at E7 178.

The stolen items included 3x Black and White Whisky, 2x750ml Bells, 3x5 litres of 4th Street wine, 2x White Horse, 3x carry packs of Belgravia, 3x carry packs of Savanna, 1x carry pack of Klipdrift and Cola, 3x carry packs of Flying Fish, 2x 750ml of Johnnie Walker and 4x20s of cigarettes, all totalling E7 778.

Kunene stated that he would conduct his own defence when informed of his right to legal representa­tion. The Crown applied that Kunene be remanded in custody until tomorrow, pending conjoinmen­t with other accused persons who were still at large.

The Crown indicated that it was not opposed to bail. As a result, Kunene was granted bail fixed at E3 000. He was warned not to commit a similar offence while out on bail. He was warned against interferin­g with Crown witnesses.

He was also warned to attend all remands and hearings whenever ordered to do so. Among other crimes, Kunene is currently out on bail for allegedly burning his father’s property and further threatenin­g to kill his stepmother.

Meanwhile, in the same court, Bhekumusa Vilane (23) of Ngwenya appeared charged with attempted murder after he allegedly assaulted Neliso Dlamini with a bush knife, beer bottles, kicks and fists all over the body. Vilane is also accused of malicious damage to property in the same area. It is alleged that he damaged Ncamiso Yende’s property valued at E18 070 using the bush knife and stones.

The damaged items included double beds, television set, fridge, dressing tables and electric stove, among other items.

The Crown applied that Vilane be remanded in custody until March 3, 2023, pending committal to the High Court.
