Sir

Wake me up when we’re free, when the nation has been ridden of the despair that runs deeper than the roots of a pine tree. When both our eyes and minds are open so we can understand the things we see; on the long awaited day when freedom is really free.

Please wake me up when our beloved land is free from these murderers who are on a killing spree. They pluck our brothers and sisters from us like corn. Leaving behind gaping holes in the hearts they have torn. Let us not forget the grim headlines about missing people and discovered corpses.

Wake me up when the prevalent drug wars have ceased, for they the uninvolved tangled in their deadly web and deceased. Wake me up when we are free from the tight hold of corruption,

When those that possess finally stop taking from those without possessions.

Ckolwethu

Youth

Wake me up when the word youth is no longer the synonym for criminal and rebel, because the youth asks the wrong right questions and finds means to get answers.

Wake me up when politicians start making selfless decisions, when they decide to make serving the masses their top mission. When they realise that collaboration prevails over competition.

Wake me up when woman and man alike are free from the threat of abuse perpetrated by their loved ones. When we realise that abuse in all its horrific forms separates us, and creates a culture of distrust, hatred and fear.

Wake me up when everyone decides to stand together. When we join forces to protect our land from any stormy weather. This is necessary for us to reach where we are meant to be.

But until then I shall go into a deep sleep, please wake me up when we are free …
