LOBAMBA - The Malandela’s Legacy Fund beneficiar­y handover took place at House On Fire yesterday.

The fund was launched this year on behalf of the Thorne )amily, to honour 3eter µMalandela’ Thorne and -enny Thorne. The establishm­ent of the fund acknowledg­es their lifelong commitment to their guiding philosophy that people and businesses should be actively involved in developing the communitie­s they live in. It was founded to contribute directly to community developmen­t proMects in the /obamba /omd]ala constituen­cy and donates around (4

annually to community developmen­t proMects in the area. $ committee of key members of the /obamba /omd]ala community help decide which proMects will be funded.

The +onourable Member of 3arliament M3 for /obamba /omd]ala and Chairperso­n of the MTN Bushfire Committee, Marwick Khumalo spoke at the hand-over, which was well attended by representa­tives from the /obamba /omd]ala Umphakatsi and Mahlanya Market committee.

The Malandela’s /egacy )und Committee identified the following proposals to support:

Moya Centre

The Moya Centre in Mahlanya received (

to support their drive to ensure that children in the area have birth certificat­es, in order to access schools and government services. Many of these children are identified by Moya Centre’s 3sychosoci­al 6upport 6ervices in the course of their duties. This year, Moya Center helped 46 children in the area to get birth certificat­es.

³This is one of the very needed interventi­ons in the community. 6ometimes we meet children who are over seven years old and still not at school because they do not have a birth certificat­e. Moya Center helps with bus fare money, with the church and eventually getting the congregant­s registered,´ he said.

$ccording to N[umalo, the youth is slowly losing hope, as they go to school and come back to unemployme­nt. Instacash presents an certificat­e fees, affidavit fees and fees for the letter from the umphakatsi,´ said Moya Centre 'irector, Nomcebo Makhubu.

The proposal was submitted by Malandela’s Cyclone )C 3resident Theo +oward, who said: ³2ur dream is to see the community members active and working together in sports, building a generation that will be healthy and opportunit­y for the youth and church members to make money as agents of the Mobile Money business.

The partnershi­p opened doors for the launch of a =ion Maga]ine. The maga]ine is digital and it aims at promoting the talent of local, =ion active in sports and make a better place in our community.´

Mahlanya Market

The Mahlanya Market Committee identified the need for a brush cutter to cut the grass in and around the vicinity of the market, to keep the surroundin­gs clean and well maintained. The market is the central heart of Mahlanya, and so this will benefit the whole community. In addition, Malandela’s Nursery, operated by $ll 2ut $frica, will donate indigenous trees for planting around the market for shade, erosion control and aesthetics.

Mfundo Matsebula of =ion Maga]ine revealed that their maga]ine is now digital, as it was previously printed as a hard copy. ³This applicatio­n comes with advancemen­ts which has options like upcoming =ion events, such as night vigils. There is also an online shop and a platform for selling =ion music. :e will also publish teachings and sermons of the =ion Church for everyone to access,´ Matsebula said.

Board member of the =ion Maga]ine 3resident Mancoba Mavuso was also present at the launch, he said: ³I would like to thank =ion Maga]ine for responding Tuickly in giving the local =ion church a voice through their applicatio­n.

My gratitude is also directed at Instacash for what they are doing for the church and what they are yet to do for the church. :e have many dreams as a church, but for you to consider this one today means that you would also be able to consider other people’s dreams and make them better people tomorrow,´ Mavuso said.
