Epilepsy Half Marathon successful – Epilepsy director
MBABANE – The ‘50 million steps for epilepsy’themed Yellow Epilepsy Half Marathon held early this month has been deemed a success.
During a breakfast meeting convened at the Mountain View Hotel, formerly Mountain Inn, Eswatini Epilepsy Organisation Acting Director Abraham
Ntshalintshali said the Yellow Epilepsy Half Marathon 2023 went well. Their distinguished sponsors, athletics clubs and the media were in attendance yesterday.
“The event had about 400 runners from various companies and organisations, as are represented by all of you today, as well as running clubs for which some are represented, namely Swazi Slojos, UNESWA Athletics Club and His Majesty’s
Correctional Services. We also want to recognise the participation of these clubs: The City of Mbombela, Golden Foot Club, Ngculwini Athletics Club, TZD Club, Zithande Athletics Club and Edmark International, who all had members running the race. There were also about 300 community members in attendance, making the total attendance for the event about 700 individuals,” he said.
The theme for this year’s marathon
was ‘50 million steps for epilepsy’, which was a global trademark under the International Bureau for Epilepsy whereby over 120 countries globally participated in contributing towards 50 million steps in honour of the 50 million people with epilepsy across the globe. “In counting the average number of steps from the running and aerobics, we are presented with an approximate 6.7 million steps in total, more than 10 per cent of the global target,” Ntshalintshali said.
