Swallows, Kabia smoke peace pipe

- Mengameli Mabuza

MBABANE – Capital city giants Mbabane Swallows and Sierra Leone defensive midfielder, Mohammed Kabia have resolved their differences.

The latter is expected back at training as of next week after missing out this week as Swallows reacted to his agent’s outburst by suspending him and further scheduling a disciplinary hearing.

The player’s original team, Alaska FC in Sierra Leone, had also sworn the player would not attend the hearing as they were waiting for the world soccer governing body, Federation of International Football Association’s (FIFA) response to their complaint. Kabia’s agent had raised an issue that his client’s team was owed E20 000 as part of the former’s loan agreement.

“In football there are moments where you find yourself clashing over some issues and what happened in this case is that the agent had our correspondence talking about the month of December and we have signed documents that talk about the end of the season.

“We have spoken to the player’s agent and we have resolved our issues with all the parties that are involved. Kabia will start training on Monday.

“This also means we’ve withdrawn his suspension but he can’t play today (yesterday) as he didn’t train with us,” Zwane responded to a question on national radio, Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services’ (EBIS) Sports Show.

Resolved

He also said they would issue a team’s press release on the issue, otherwise everything was resolved and they did not expect any more negative publicity about it. Our sister publication, the Times of Eswatini reported the player was absent against Nsingizini Hotspurs because the club had failed to pay the loan agreement fee of E20 000 which was meant to be paid last December.

His agent, Alhassan Kamara, revealed that the player was on a season-long loan deal with the Caleb Ngwenya-led side. Kamara also had also made it clear Kabia would not play until the matter was sorted out. He affirmed the latest news yesterday.

“It’s true they contacted us and they agreed in principle that they will pay us the loan agreement fee before the close of business today (yesterday),” Kamara said.

Meanwhile, Kabia is a Sierra Leone Under-23 National Team player who joined the red and white side before the start of the season after a stint with Denver Sundowns. He got his national team call up soon after joining Swallows ahead of the 2022/23 TOTALEnergies Under-23 Qualifiers.
